- The King's Daughters, an education program, reaches out to
young girls in a holistic religious fashion seeking to cultivate
spirituality, ( a good sense of well - being ) leadership, self
esteem, personal growth, and spiritual development ( a
relationship with God ) within the inner city environs. The
Program services young ladies who predominantly reside in the
Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan neighborhoods and is directed to
those diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
-
- Our program strengths are in varied activities offered to
balance social interactions while fostering ethical
decision-making skills. Instruction includes a wide range of
topics which includes but are not limited to: Personal Hygiene,
Health Issues -- teen pregnancy and substance abuse, Morality and
Modesty, Conflict Resolution, Peer Pressure, Social Graces, Caring
for Others and College Preparatory Issues. The youths are exposed
to Skills-Building techniques, etc., and Understanding God's Will
for their lives.
-
- Each class includes a graded curriculum , built-in
distinctive, and age-related activities. The classes meet twice a
month on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays from
10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. An Arts and Crafts component ( 10:00
- 12:00 noon on the 3rd Saturday ) is offered for those
ages 6 - 12.
-
- The King's Daughters are given opportunities for leadership,
mentoring and volunteering. These, coupled with a strong sense of
self, moral character, interpersonal skills and individual
spiritual growth, will steer each young lady towards a successful
future. A very important component to the TKD Program is the
mentoring relationship that exists between the groups' leaders and
the youth. The program includes opportunities for fellowship and
trips. The contact person for this program is Sister Patricia Garland.
